BOROUGH OF FORT LEE STATEMENT
REGARDING COVID-19 CASE IN COMMUNITY

MARCH 5, 2020 – FORT LEE, NJ - At 8:00 p.m. last night (March 4, 2020), the Borough of Fort Lee was notified that a resident of our community has tested positive for the Coronavirus, more formally known as COVID-19. We await confirmation from the Center of Disease Control that these results are confirmed. While we await additional information, we do know that the individual is a 32-year old male.

In light of factors such as our commuter population and our proximity to the City of New York, the Borough of Fort Lee has been diligently preparing for and is prepared to address this presumptive case of COVID-19 and any other cases that may be confirmed in the future.

This morning, a meeting of our Task Force led by Mayor Mark J. Sokolich and Bergen County Executive James Tedesco was convened for purposes of discussing next steps, mobilizing resources and to prepare for the results of the medical investigation which is now ongoing. As the medical investigation progresses, the Borough of Fort Lee, in conjunction with County and State agencies, will take all appropriate steps.

The Borough of Fort Lee and the County of Bergen are in contact with the Office of the Governor and will continue to maintain constant communication to discuss the results of the medical investigation, next steps, and any resources that may be required. The County of Bergen and State of New Jersey have committed their unwavering assistance to the Borough of Fort Lee in addressing this issue.

The Borough of Fort Lee is prepared to preserve the health, safety and welfare of its residents and we will continue to provide information as it becomes available. We urge people to remain calm, not spread fear and panic, and be assured that all available resources are being deployed and devoted to addressing this issue.
