COVID-19 Update: Community Alert (3/6/20)

As a follow-up to the presumptive positive Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) case of a Fort Lee resident, the following information has been confirmed:

• The Fort Lee Health Department and New Jersey State Department of Health conducted an in-depth interview with the individual to identify any close contacts.
• It was determined that there were no known Fort Lee contacts while the individual was in Fort Lee on Monday, March 2.
• The individual has residences in both NYC and Fort Lee.
• The individual did not take mass transportation into NJ from NY during the timeframe investigated; a personal vehicle was used.
• The individual does not have school-aged children.
• The individual remains in isolation in a medical facility.

As a result of the investigation, the precautions Fort Lee residents should take to minimize exposure to any respiratory virus, including COVID-19, remain the same as prior to this presumptive positive case, and include:

• Properly cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve, not your hands.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
• Stay home if you are sick and avoid sick people.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

Please be assured that the Borough of Fort Lee, in coordination with Federal, State and County agencies, is conducting ongoing monitoring of COVID-19. In accordance with NJ State Health Department guidance, there are no recommendations to cancel school or social events. Prompt notification to schools, multiple dwellings, places of worship and any other facilities will be provided should further actions need to be taken. All individuals should be reminded that part of good respiratory hygiene is staying home from events when ill.
