Michael Sargenti has called Fort Lee home for most of his life and has raised his family, including kids Christen and Michael, in the borough. One of the Councilman’s passions has always been being involved in local sports and coaching, and having both a son and a daughter, he’s had his lion’s share of being involved in the following both boys’ and girls’ sports, including:
He firmly believes that his experience leading team sports has prepared him for his role with the Council and gives him perspective in his work.
Over the years, Sargenti has worked closely with the Boards for Zoning Board of Adjustment, Rent Leveling, Recreation and Parks, and the Board of Education. Sargenti serves as Council president, as he did in 2008, and currently serves as the Council Committee liaison for the Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Office of Emergency Management, Fire Department and Police Departments, which he feels privileged to work so closely with as these are critical departments in any town and very important to maintain a connection with citizens on. He also serves on the committees as Council liaison for the Planning Board and Parking Authority.
A councilman since 2003, Sargenti is beyond satisfied with the positive direction the town has moved ahead in since he has been in office and honored to be part of a team that had the vision and focused wherewithal to plan for and execute Fort Lee’s future. The accomplishments that the Mayor and Council have achieved since Sargenti came on board include the revitalization of the Downtown district and updated Main Street; a turf field and clubhouse for Van Fleet Park in Coytesville; placement of turf on the Lewis F. Cole Middle School field, where the High School football, soccer and baseball teams also play; and his work with the Board of Education on the expansion and improvement of the district’s six schools. There is much work to do though and looks forward being a part of it.
In his professional life, Sargenti worked for UPS for over 33 years, where he started as a driver and spent most of his time in management. Since 2012, he’s worked for the New York Waterway where he’s worked in marketing, and most recently, has served as the director of ground operations.
Councilman Sargenti lives in the Coytesville section of Fort Lee with his wife, Christine - a teacher at Fort Lee Elementary School Number 4. He is the proud “Pop Pop” of granddaughters Hailey and Gianna.
