Biography

A third-generation Fort Lee resident, Joseph "Joe" L. Cervieri, Jr., is serving his 24th consecutive year on Fort Lee's Borough Council and presently as Borough Council president.

Work History

Joe is a licensed real estate broker in NY & NJ, fiduciary and financial advisor with extensive experience in both the institutional and non-institutional environments. He purchased, financed, managed and sold real estate investments, at a senior executive level, for several multi-national financial institutions such as The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States (AXA-Equitable), Banque Indo-Suez and Bankers Trust Company (Deutsche Bank).  In 1993 he founded JJC Realty International, Inc., a boutique real estate brokerage and investment advisory company providing real estate investment advice to institutions, endowments and high net-worth domestic and international clients throughout the continental United States.

Financial Experience

Joe brings his considerable financial experience with institutional private and public sectors to the Council. His extensive involvement working with international investment banks and pension funds coupled with his small business ownership and fiduciary awareness, assures that government services are delivered to residents at the best possible cost to the taxpayers. Over the past 24 years, his integral contributions have included acquisitions including the planning and development of the Fort Lee Jack Alter Community Center, Fort Lee Police Department facility, Fort Lee Building/Fire Prevention facility, Fort Lee Public Library, the 3.3 acre Department of Public Works site and several Fort Lee municipal parking lots.

Community Involvement

Throughout his life, Joe has been passionately involved in the Fort Lee community.  He is an executive member and t0rustee of the Fort Lee Public Library Board where he serves as its treasurer. Joe is an active founding member of the Board on the Fort Lee Business District Alliance (BDA). He is president of the Grosvenor Square at Kensington IV Board of Directors and a member of the Kensington Townhomes Board of Directors where he is a resident.  Previously, Joe served for six years as the chairman of Fort Lee Democrats and on the Board of Directors of Eastern Bergen County Board of Realtors.  He also served for fifteen years as an Executive Member of the Board and President of the Atrium Palace Condominium Association.

Family

The Councilman is very proud of his family connection to the Borough. In 1931, his grandfather John A. Cervieri, Sr., built and relocated his real estate, insurance and travel agencies from Suffern, NY to the first exit of the George Washington Bridge, coinciding with its opening. In the early 1950s, he developed and built the first high-rise building in the Borough, Palisade Terrace, which still stands at 1450 Palisade Avenue. Additionally, in 1963 Joseph L. Cervieri, Sr., Joe's dad, along with two partners, formed Triangle Film Laboratories on Main Street on the site of Bonded Films. Joe strongly believes the diversity of our community and its rich history are a just a few of the town's greatest assets, making us one of the most progressive and innovative communities in the country.

Education

Joe earned his Bachelor of the Arts degree Cum Laude in Economics from Boston College. He is married to his wife and high school sweetheart, JoAnn Hein, also a third generation Fort Lee resident. Together they love spending time with their two dogs and two cats, and enjoy the culture the NY Metropolitan Area offers.
