Americans with Disabilities Act logoThe Fort Lee Mayor & Council's Advisory Committee for the Disabled was established in 1993. It is comprised of 17 members including a Council liaison, Borough Department Heads, residents with disabilities, and other interested residents of Fort Lee.

The Committee identifies needs and problems, advises and helps develop services and programs, and recommends solutions to meet the needs of Fort Lee’s residents with all type of disabilities.

The Committee has worked to improve accessibility throughout the Borough. Among its accomplishments are the following:

  •  Revision of snow removal ordinance to make sidewalks, streets, and parking more accessible
  •  Revision of Municipal Building code to eliminate permit fees for alterations which improve accessibility
  •  Sensitivity training sessions for all Borough employees
  •  Resource racks containing literature about disabilities
  •  Informational town wide meetings for persons with disabilities
  •  Participation in Heritage Day and Fort Lee’s Annual Health Fair


Mission Statement

The goal of the Fort Lee Mayor & Council's Advisory Committee for the Disabled is to encourage the ability of individuals with disabilities to fully participate in all aspects of community life. This mission is achieved through educating and advising the local government on the creation of accessible and barrier free services and facilities in Fort Lee.

The Committee is a member of the National Organization on Disability's Community Partnership Program (CPP), and a participant in New Jersey Transit's ADA Task Force Committee.

  • Registry of Disabled Persons: you may visit www.registerready.nj.gov to register online, or you may call 201-592-3500 extension 1512 (OEM) or 201-592-3500 extension 1018 (Fire Prevention) for assistance and/or additional information
  • Resource rack of literature on disabilities in Borough Hall
  • Hearing devices at Council meetings and Court sessions
  • The Office of Emergency Management will arrange for assistance with snow removal and secondary backup for power outages: call 201-592-3500 x1512 or 201-592-3500
